IV edizione della conferenza su - Recent insights and new perspectives in lung transplantation

Date:
10/11/2007 - 10/13/2007
Venue:
Pavia (Italy)
Lung and heart-lung transplantation are established therapies for end stage pulmonary and cardio-pulmonary disease. However, proper patient selection, peri-operative and long-term patient care may still be challenging even for a seasoned transplant physician. The forth biannual meeting “Recent Insights and New Perspectives in Lung Transplantation” will deliver the latest knowledge on lung and heart-lung transplantation medicine benefiting from the contribution of speakers from some of the most prestigious European and American institutions. In the first session, two main topics will be discussed: how to increase the pool of organ donors and proper timing for listing patients with idiopatic pulmonary fibrosis. The second session will be focused on surgical alternatives to lung transplantation for patients affected by chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension or by emphysema. In the third session, the management of fungal and viral infection in the peri-operative period will be addressed. To conclude, in the forth session the impact of ischemia-reperfusion injury on lung function and the pathogenesis of BOS will be reviewed. Also, there will be two mini-sessions for the discussion of selected clinical cases to encourage dialogue and discussion amongst the faculty and the audience.

Mario Viganò and Ernesto Pozzi Co-Presidents of the Meeting
