We are glad to invite you to the 18th edition of the International Symposium of Suicidology and Public Health – World Suicide Prevention Day.
Due to the unprecedented time we are living, this year, we will organize our International Symposium through a digital edition. We will host several webinars during the week from Sept 7 to Sept 12.
For the third year in a row, the topic of the World Suicide Prevention Day is "Work together to prevent suicide," which contributes to strengthening the essential role of multidisciplinary cooperation as a basic ingredient for suicide prevention.
This title, assigned to the event by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), reinforces globally the notion that suicide prevention is possible and is everybody's business.
As members of the same community, no one excluded, we are called to question ourselves and define possible interventions to offer support to those who choose death as the last relief for unbearable pain.The Scientific Community and the population are called to this task.
Hence, from this perspective, we hope to spread an integrated point of view of the suicidal phenomenon to implement the competencies, both in assessment and suicide risk management, of all the scientific community and the gatekeepers.
To the expert involved in health promotion and suicide prevention, each new contribution is a step forward to the dissemination of good practices that are also directed to implement comprehension and co-construction of an appropriate assessment, an essential aspect of suicide prevention.
We also highlight how World Health Organization (WHO) placed suicide as a priority for action, and therefore, it appears the need to assure continuity to the efforts and quality to the interventions of primary and secondary prevention, fostering the actualization of more cohesive and effective guidelines of interventions.
