In Udine, four days dedicated to surgery and transplants

 

Four days dedicated to the sharing of information on surgery and transplants will be attracting the top international experts in these areas to Udine. The pre-congress course, "Introducing a new concept in Kidney Transplantation" will be held in the afternoon of Wednesday 25 October. On Thursday 26 October, the second part of the pre-congress course entitled "From Static to Dynamic Organ Preservation" will begin in the morning, then during the second part of the morning, Professor Alberto De Toni, Rector of the University of Udine, will be the awarding an honorary degree to Ronald W. Busuttil, Professor of the UCLA University of Los Angeles and Director of the Surgery Department at the same university.

"Professor Busuttil is past president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the International Liver Transplant Society," explains Andrea Risaliti, Director of the Surgery Clinic and the Liver, Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation Centre of the University Hospital of Udine, and Chairman of the Congress. "In 1984, Professor Busuttil founded the Liver Transplant Programme at the UCLA University of which he was director for thirty years. This Centre has become one of the most important in the world for liver transplantation and nearly six thousand transplants have been performed there". 

The actual Congress entitled "HPB Surgery: Udine meets the experts” is scheduled to start on Thursday afternoon and continue throughout Friday 27 October, during which there will be descriptions of liver transplantation techniques, including the use of laparoscopy and robotics. Finally, on Saturday October 28, a satellite symposium will be dedicated to the Italian School of Surgery.
