New challenges for defeating cardiovascular diseases

Cardiovascular diseases are still the main health problem and the first cause of death, disability, hospitalisation and socio-economic costs. All this despite the undeniable progress achieved in diagnosis and treatment over the last forty years. In order to contribute to the fight against cardiovascular diseases, cardiologists from Italy and various other parts of the world will be illustrating the most recent results of research during the convention entitled “New frontiers to beat cardiovascular disease”, to be held in Rome on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September 2017. Organised by Professor Massimo Volpe, head of the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology of the ‘La Sapienza’ University of Rome, Full Professor of Cardiology and Director of the Operating Unit of the Cardiology Complex at the Sant’Andrea Hospital in Rome, the convention will be promoted by the Fondazione Internazionale Menarini.

“During the congress, the recent advances will be illustrated as well as the future challenges that we can now face up to thanks to the availability of new techniques and new discoveries in research, and which we are ready to put into practice to improve the health of all patients”, explains Professor Volpe. “It will be an appointment for confrontation and sharing with the leading experts in cardiology for the purpose of identifying together the best strategies capable of reducing the development and consequences of heart disease, with the ambitious goal of actually beating it”.

Worth noting among the principal topics of the congress, is the first session on Thursday 7 September dedicated to the cause of heart attacks, followed by other sessions on the same day concerning heart failure, the most recent anticoagulant and high blood pressure treatments, the prevention of sudden cardiac death, and the new strategies for counteracting pulmonary hypertension. The second day, Friday 8 September, will be dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, precision medicine, and the description of the most recent diagnostic tests that can help assess the risks for each individual patient.
