"Critical Issues In The Management Of Polytrauma Patient With Tbi"

Increasingly more expert teams for providing first-aid for people suffering from injury

How is first-aid organised for people suffering from injury or victims of accidents in Italy, South America, Europe and the rest of the world? This will be the opening theme of the international symposium entitled “Critical issues in the management of polytrauma patients with traumatic brain injury” to be held in Bergamo on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 November 2017. The Symposium, organised by the Fondazione per la Ricerca Ospedale Maggiore (FROM) of Bergamo and the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII of Bergamo, and promoted by the Fondazione Internazionale Menarini, will be attended by top international experts who will discuss the main topics concerning patients suffering from injury, the crucial importance of first-aid during the intial hours after the accident, and the new therapeutic and surgical opportunities.
“Brain injury and multi-organ lesions are the main cause of death and disability in young people” explains Tiziano Barbui, Scientific Director of the Fondazione per la Ricerca Ospedale Maggiore (FROM) of Bergamo. “Over the last few years the progress made in pre-hospital first-aid as well as intensive care and surgical treatment have greatly reduced mortality from accidents, however the situation is still worrying. The ideal strategy for obtaining the best results probably consists of intervening on different fronts, from first-aid for the patient at the accident scene up to the rehabilitation, study and use of new emergency techniques and procedures, the training of emergency rescue teams, and management of the patient in hospital. To achieve this we must first and foremost consider the idea of ‘cultural contamination’ as crucial.  In other words, we have to make sure that people with different specialisations and roles learn how to work together as a team, sharing different experiences, discussing and reviewing difficult cases, and learning from research but also from working on the field. These will be the main topics addressed at the symposium to be held in Bergamo”.
The Symposium venue is the “Lucio Parenzan” auditorium of the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII, in Piazza OMS 1, Bergamo.
