Obstetric anesthesia is a set of science and art which, when properly combined, lead to a perfect outcome
of two or more closely intertwined patients, the mother and her child. In recent years, changes in
maternal-fetal pathology have been a stimulus for rapid developments in obstetric anesthesia, so much so
that the anesthesiologist has gained a leading role in the delivery team.
This XVI UPDATE is also intended to be an opportunity to discuss the state of the art of obstetric anesthetic
practice, which is constantly evolving.
The debate and the reports will stimulate us to reflect on interdisciplinary dynamics and their potential to
guarantee the highest quality standards.
