Twenty-three countries and territories from Europe, North Africa, and Middle Eastern Asia have coastlines along the Mediterranean Sea, which is almost entirely bordered by land. Throughout history, the Mediterranean Sea has served as a vital thoroughfare for merchants and travelers, facilitating commerce and cultural interchange among the diverse populations residing in the area. Over the past few years, the Mediterranean Sea has emerged as a prominent migration route utilized by individuals originating from developing nations who are in pursuit of improved prospects in Europe. From the coasts of Africa, hundreds of thousands of individuals traverse the Mediterranean, frequently in small vessels. While the majority made it to European coastlines, a considerable number perished in their endeavor to reach Europe. The aim of the Congress is to bring together the world’s leading experts on the main pathologies historically present in the Mediterranean area and on all those that represent a serious threat due to migratory flows, climate change, wars, and population dynamics also with the aim oflay the foundations for future research and scientific collaborations. With a comprehensive outlook and from a One Health perspective, we shall discuss antimicrobial resistance from veterinary medicine and agriculture in addition to human medicine. Emerging viral threats, difficult-to-treat infections, foodborne zoonoses, arthropod transmitted diseases, and diseases associated with migration and travel will be the main topics of the conference.
